Two numbers decide almost everything about your XI Class choice list: the college’s minimum GPA and its available seat number for your group. Get the balance between them wrong and you can end up with ten choices that all reject you, or ten choices so safe you undersell your result. Why Minimum GPA and Seat Number Matter Together

XI Class admission is entirely merit-based — no entrance test. Seats at every college are allocated to the highest-GPA applicants first, within each group, shift, and version, until the seats run out. That means a college’s minimum GPA figure isn’t a fixed cutoff set in advance; it’s simply the lowest GPA the college is willing to consider, and the real cutoff for this year is only known once a merit phase result is published.

The seat number matters just as much as the GPA. A college listing “GPA 5.00” with 800 seats behaves very differently from one listing “GPA 5.00” with 15 seats — the second is far more competitive in practice, even though the published minimum looks identical.

How to Check GPA Requirement and Seat Number for Any College

Two things worth checking for each college before you add it to your list:

• Shift and version — a college can have a completely different minimum GPA for its Morning shift versus its Day shift, or its Bangla versus English version.
• Total available seats — some published lists separate “Total Seat” from “Available Seat” for a group; the available figure is what’s actually open this year.

Understanding the Merit List: What Happens When GPA Is the Same

With thousands of applicants sharing the same GPA, especially GPA 5.00, the 2026 policy sets out exactly how ties are broken:

• Within Science group: ties are resolved first by marks in General Math and Higher Math, or Biology; if still tied, by marks in English, then Physics, then Chemistry, in that order.
• Within Humanities or Business Studies: ties are resolved by marks in English, then Mathematics, then Bangla.
• Cross-group applicants (for example, a Business Studies student applying to Humanities) with equal GPA are ranked by total marks, then by the same subject order as above if still tied.

In practice, this means two students with an identical GPA 5.00 can land in different colleges purely on the strength of their Higher Math or English marks — worth remembering when you’re deciding how ambitious to be with your top choices.

The Own-Institution Advantage: Priority Seats for Own Students

One rule in the 2026 policy is easy to miss but genuinely useful: students who passed SSC from a school-and-college or equivalent institution get priority admission into that same institution’s own group (Science, Humanities, or Business Studies), provided they meet that institution’s own eligibility. Only the seats left over after the institution’s own students are placed go to outside applicants.

In practical terms, this is why many colleges publish a much lower minimum GPA for their own students than for everyone else — sometimes as low as GPA 1.00 against a general requirement of GPA 5.00 for the same group. Government colleges follow separate government-set fee guidance, and colleges are expected to consider fee waivers for meritorious students from low-income families and students with special needs, where possible.

Separately, at the point your seat is first confirmed, the education board collects a fixed ৳340 through the portal, made up of a registration fee, sports fee, Rover/Rezar fee, Red Crescent fee, science-and-technology fee, BNCC fee, and a teachers’ welfare and retirement benefit fee.

Reserved Seats (Quota) You Should Know About

Not every seat is allocated purely by open merit:

• 93% of seats at every college or madrasah are open to all applicants, allocated strictly by merit.
• 2% is reserved for children of Ministry of Education officials/staff (1%) and staff of its subordinate offices (1%), at metropolitan, divisional, and district-town institutions — subject to meeting the college’s minimum GPA, and filled by merit among quota applicants if oversubscribed.
• 5% is reserved for the children of freedom fighters or martyred freedom fighters, with the relevant certificate required at application and the original shown at admission.

If quota seats go unfilled because no eligible applicant comes forward, they are given to general-merit applicants — no seat is left vacant on quota grounds alone.
